Regenerative Medicine Q & A

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is an area of research and practice that focuses on using the human body’s natural regenerative powers to repair or replace damaged tissue types. It is the same science that allows organ transplants, skin grafting, and rapid wound repair.

There are many applications for regenerative medicine, and every day, more are developed. At MedVital Wellness Center, innovative applications are used to treat erectile dysfunction, enable feminine rejuvenation, and support weight loss.

What is platelet-rich plasma?

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a solution created from a small portion of your own blood. After drawing the blood, your provider places it into a centrifuge which spins at a high rate of speed. That spinning causes the solid components of your blood, including red and white blood cells and platelets, to separate from the plasma, or liquid component.

Once the platelets are isolated, they’re returned to the extracted plasma to create PRP. Platelets enable blood clotting and contain special proteins called growth factors. The final product supports and hastens cellular turnover, building new tissues to repair or replace damaged cells.

PRP therapy has been shown to relieve symptoms of vaginal atrophy and a condition known as lichen sclerosus, which can cause significant pain in women. It is also an effective treatment for joint pain and anti-aging.

What are amnio injections?

Amniotic fluid is the liquid a mother’s body produces to protect and nurture a growing fetus. This solution contains proteins, enzymes, amino acids, and hormones.

In addition to promoting new cell growth, amnio injections can also reduce inflammation in the treatment area. This can resolve many different health concerns, especially joint pain. This treatment also gives your body a chance to leverage its natural healing abilities.

Donors of amniotic fluid used in regenerative medicine give consent. The fluid is cryogenically preserved and screened prior to use, and the injections are not painful.
